Oliver Twist, A Strange Interview
A locket sold in a ruined mill, a conversation overheard through a door, and a girl who keeps an appointment on a dark staircase.
Retold for sleep from Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, first published in 1838 and long out of copyright. The story is Dickens's; every sentence here is our own.
